- This last Sunday, a massive march in support of the use of marijuana for therapeutic purposes was held in Chile, during the International Medical Marijuana Day which took place last Saturday. The young people were the protagonists of this call, which toured the famous Alameda Street in the Chilean capital on a day marked by a festive atmosphere.
There were also some families who were accompanied by their children to claim the right to use this natural and inexpensive therapy without being considered criminals. 'For a natural, quality medicine for all' was the motto of this demonstration which passed peacefully, guarded by security forces, though.
With banners with messages like 'Allow self-cultivation', 'cannabis is life and medicine', 'gardener, not trafficker' or 'pain relief cannot wait', the attendees expressed their desire to legalize cannabis with therapeutic purposes. Many had drawn marijuana leaves on their cheeks and foreheads.
One of the attendees carried a green banner that gathered, with her own testimonial, her reason to join the march: "I have fibromyalgia; cannabis gave me my life back."
This demonstration has been held just a week before Expoweed, the largest trade fair in the whole of South America, taking place in the Chilean capital between 21 and 23 November. Dinafem will definitely be there again, doing its bit so that it becomes a place for meeting, information and debate on the recreational, medical and industrial uses of cannabis.
