- It looks so appealing that anybody would want to consume it. This is the work of Andrei Koschmieder, who recreates cannabis fragments using paper, glue and resin. Onlookers have asked him whether anyone has tried to smoke it. Although that is not the case, it could still happen yet.
Before anyone may attempt to enjoy his work he provides a warning: “Do not smoke the art”. In any museum or exhibition gallery undoubtedly that would cross nobody’s mind even for a moment, but in his case, there is a good reason: the German-Korean artist Andrei Koschmieder creates strange cannabis shaped sculptures using paper, glue and resin.
Koschmieder has recreated a kind of dispensary, although really it is just a work of art, where you can see glass containers with cannabis buds on white sheets. They are little cannabis cuttings that seem to spring up and hang from the recipients. Whoever tries to obtain some of the product and put it in their cigarette will have little luck however, despite the fact it looks very realistic and appealing.
The artist observed real cannabis plants in order to create each piece. He then printed a colour similar to the plants on to paper, before crumpling it up and moulding it with his own fingers, and sticking it with a little glue.
Koschmieder aims to play with the concept of reality. It is a kind of metaphor that talks about false cannabis, desire, and excitement about taboos, and presents a possible future where “psychological states are printed directly”.
He says that these reproductions cause a “psychological reaction”. He wants the observer’s senses to feel that the fake cannabis is a fresh and natural product, and one that becomes even more real when looked at under the influence of actual consumption.
Has anyone tried to smoke it? Luckily, no: the glue could be quite harmful. However, faced with the public's insistence, Koschmieder proposes to wait and see if anyone falls for the bait. The result would possibly be unpleasant, nothing like true quality cannabis.
