- Bob Marley, Marge Simpson, hot air balloons, asteroids and the logos of major companies are depicted in the work of Dan Cretu, marijuana green at the centre of his work.
Marijuana inspires, stimulates the senses, opens the mind and helps those who smoke it to be more creative and delve into totally new worlds. There are those who take advantage of their predilection for the plant to enjoy those effects and apply them to their work, especially if they are involved in an artistic sphere.
The story of Dan Cretu could well fit this description. The Rumanian artist has drawn upon all his skills to make marijuana the focus of his work (or at least a large part of it). His work is publicly available on Instagram, where the grass's green hue blurs with objects, landscapes and abstractions.
Cretu creates all type of images in which buds, rather than just adornments, are the main element. Anybody asking him why he does this, or what he aims to transmit through each one of his creations, will get no answer. The artist prefers to talk about other things, so that those who view his work can think and judge for themselves.
He also states that those who take the time to contemplate his creations usually perceive even more than what he was trying to express. And this should come as no surprise: his cannabis leaves can, for example, replace the hair of the likes of Bob Marley.
Or they can portray a hot air balloon.
There are houses resting on greenish rocks.
Can you imagine an ice cream flavour featuring your favourite plant? It now exists (at least in his drawings).
Clouds of marijuana.
Asteroids dotting space.

The logos of major brands.
And even Marge Simpson's hair, dyed green rather than its regular blue.
We are witness to a new cannabis universe that might some day hang on the walls of the world's premier museums. Who knows? A plant so rich in history certainly warrants it.
