Original Amnesia from Dinafem is a sturdy, vigorous variety that expresses 3-4 distinct phenotypes. It is sativa-dominant plant, and can easily reach heights of two metres or more. It generally thrives on a medium dose of nutrients (we're currently using Gaia Organics, an Italian brand), but can happily take higher doses in flowering. Original Amnesia produces a remarkably weighty harvest when handled correctly. Our final yield was just over 600g, using a single 600W HPS lamp and a 1.2m tent. That's 1g/W, easily!
We grew this strain out at the beginning of spring – outside temperatures were already getting fairly high, and by the last two weeks or so of flowering we were regularly hitting 32º C inside the tent. Original Amnesia holds up extremely well to this level of heat; the yield is not affected adversely, although quality of the final harvest may suffer a little. We ended up with lots of foxtails, but nonetheless, lots of crystals and fine, fragrant terps.
It's worth noting that at the point of switching to flowering, it's better to switch light cycle and immediately commence feeding with bloom nutrients. Many cannabis strains (particularly indica-dominant) benefit from a week or so of veg nutrients after switching day length, gradually tapered down and replaced with bloom.
How to grow Original Amnesia: reduce nitrogen
But distinctly sativa-dominant strains such as Original Amnesia require a clear signal to begin flowering, and simply changing the day length may not suffice to stop vegetative growth and kick off flowering. So if you don't immediately reduce the nitrogen and increase the phosphorus & potassium, you may face a good two weeks of further stretching. If that happens, your plants could reach monstrous proportions!
As well as this, staying on top of your pruning regime will serve you well when growing this variety. She's keen to produce multiple branches and they can get a little crowded and spindly, but with the right pruning approach you can thin them out nicely and encourage the remainder to produce gigantic colas, as long and thick as your arm.
Effects of Original Amnesia
The dense, minimally-leafed flowers produced by this variety are extremely sticky and fragrant. They have a clear, sweet lemon aroma with just the right level of earthiness to counterbalance the citrus notes. The effect is very strong and very high, and has enough of a body kick to make it a great strain for the evenings. Inexperienced smokers should be warned to go easy with this strain at first!
Original Amnesia also has astonishing trichome development and is a wonderful choice to make hashish and concentrates with. When grown correctly, your buds should be liberally dusted with sparkling, sticky crystals. The dry-sift has an incomparable aroma and flavor, and the quantity produced is phenomenal!
