Dinafem Sponsors "Canapa in Mostra", a Tribute to Hemp and Medical Cannabis

From 31 October to 2 November Naples will host the first international "Canapa in Mostra" fair, showcasing industrial hemp and medical cannabis. This event, organized by the Italian association of the same name, will seek to shine a light on a product that for many years has been put to a range of different applications in the country.

The members of the association believe that, although the last century saw a progressive decline in hemp production and commercialization, there has recently been renewed interest in it, both social and economic, an upturn being felt particularly by small producers in the country, who are now able to make a living, despite the current economic crisis, thanks to their low-cost crops. 

This is why events like this are so important, as they place citizens, associations and companies in contact with one another. This association also wishes to provide the public and the institutions with varied and verified information, as well as to make known the extensive history of cannabis in Italy, especially in the region of Campania (Naples), where before prohibition many lived off the production of hemp for industrial and therapeutic use. Every bit the tradition. 

Music, talks and workshops

The fair, which will take place in the Motra dÓltremare facility, enjoys support from influential figures in the academic sphere, such as Max During, with the Federico II Department of Engineering, dedicated to studying the hemp industry; Livio Luongo, dedicated to the sphere of experimental medicine and pharmacology; and Francesco Minucci, who works on the possible applications of cannabis in the cosmetics industry.

Participation is convenient and affordable: doors will be open between the 11:00 am and 8:00 pm on Friday, and from 11:00 am to 10:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday. The cost is 7 euros, although children ages 12 and under will be free, and seniors 60 and over will pay just 5 euros. Those 18 and under must be accompanied by an adult. 

During the first day of the event one will find talks on the history of cannabis and its use in Italy, specifically in the region where the fair is being held, as well as others related to cultivation, cannabis institutions, their future, and materials made from this product.

The second day will be dedicated to addressing health, cannabis and the environment. Specifically, there will be discussion of the pharmacological possibilities of the plant to treat chronic degenerative diseases, as well as its applications in the field of cosmetics.

During the final day special importance will be assigned to the legal area, but also to Art, History, and initiatives on the part of civil society that can be carried out to leave the future of cannabis in the hands of those who really appreciate it. 

For these three days attendees will also enjoy musical performances that will liven up the atmosphere, featuring the latest and most exciting urban sounds. 

Dispelling negative stereotypes

The association believes that this could be an opportunity to dispel the taboos and needless hang-ups that tend to surround discussions of hemp and cannabis. Thus, it will be valuable for attendees to hear solid arguments from individuals who actually have scientific and academic experience with the matter.
