- Dinafem Seeds, in collaboration with THCbd, is growing pure CBD cannabis plants in Italy in order to commercialise buds with high cannabidiol content.
- These buds will be commercially available for the first time at Canapa Mundi, the cannabis fair that will take place in Rome between 21-23 February.
- During this cannabis event, visitors will be able to vape the first flowers, grown by the Italian firm THCbd in their Padova greenhouses, following Dinafem Seeds’ quality standards.
The CBD market is booming, and light cannabis is an increasingly valued product in Italy. Cannabis buds with a THC content below 0.5% have opened a new door for the cannabis industry in this Mediterranean country. And the fact that buds with hardly any trace of tetrahydrocannabinol can now be commercialised has given pure CBD strains a highly significant protagonism.
Collaboration between Dinafem Seeds and THCbd in Italy
Dinafem Seeds started its collaboration with the Italian firm THCbd in 2019. The Dinafem seedbank provided THCbd with a strain that respects the legal cannabinoid limits established by the Italian government. Dinafem Seeds indicated the growing guidelines for this plant to produce a great yield. Even though there are no specific regulations in force regarding growing techniques for pure CBD varieties, both companies carried out their work as if there were official quality standards in place.
The THCbd team has been growing this strain in their greenhouses in Padova, and is going to commercialise the resulting product in Italy. Through this collaboration both companies are working together to offer new pure CBD varieties, which means a step up in quality when compared to that of the strains currently available on the Italian market.
Light cannabis growing in a thermal region
This pure CBD strain by Dinafem Seeds is being grown in very peculiar conditions. THCbd's greenhouses are located in Padova, in the north of Italy. This region is world famous for its thermal springs, known as the 'hot springs of the Euganei' due to their location in the Euganean Hills. It is these hot springs that help heat the crops in the THCbd greenhouses, which also combine natural and artificial lighting. The required heat for the proper growth and flowering of their cannabis plants is provided through pipes that channel the thermal water around the greenhouses. In this way the Italian firm is optimising the available local natural resources to offer the plants the optimum conditions for their development.
Even though the cultivation and commercialisation of this strain is carried out by THCbd, Dinafem Seeds has been responsible for laying the foundations to guarantee a top-quality product. Several members of the Dinafem Seeds' technical team have travelled to Padova to set the production standards, and have advised their Italian partners on the growing techniques to use in order to guarantee the optimum quality of the resulting buds.
In addition, our Dinalab technicians have carried out the testing of significant samples from the Italian grows at the Dinafem Seeds' labs, to ensure that the cannabinoid and terpene levels are correct. Only with analysis results in hand can we make sure that this product, which goes on sale at the end of February, meets the Italian legal parameters; and that the flowers' aromatic qualities are able to satisfy both medical and recreational users.
The name and characteristics of this Dinafem Seeds' strain will be announced soon, and will be available for sampling at the Roman cannabis fair Canapa Mundi between 21-23 February.
