- 2014 was a great period for the marijuana industry, and this year promises to equal or surpass it, especially in the professional arena. The data is clear: there are more and more legal companies dedicated to cannabis, employing large number of workers.
The number of recent graduates who turn to cannabis-related companies for their first jobs is steadily rising, above all in the USA. Thus, it is hardly surprising that, according to the initial forecasts, the creation of over 200,000 cannabis industry jobs is forecast (many of them new and formerly obscure positions, like extraction technicians, cannabis cooks, journalists and specialised doctors).
Marijuana sales are expected to hit 17-29 billion euros in the United States, assuming that total legalisation, medicinal as well as recreational, ultimately spreads to all 50 states and Washington D.C.
There are many who–in addition to those wanting to obtain marijuana for medicinal or recreational use–have been heading to Colorado in the last 18 months with this aim (in 2014 10,000 new jobs were created in the state thanks to cannabis).
As explains Matt Karnes, founder and director of GreenWave Advisors, those responsible for the report, the creation of jobs is just the beginning of a cultural shift that is taking place in American society and that may spill over into other countries. It is only a question of time, and political powers and citizens becoming aware of the numerous advantages that the legalization of this plant entails.
